Last Friday night, Christian and I realized we had nothing planned for the weekend. Christian suggested skiing, I said no. I mentioned hiking, but there was going to be snow. In the end we decided to go to Belgium. We left Saturday morning & our first stop was Antwerp.
In Antwerp, we saw the Cathedral of Our Lady, the town hall, Stadsfeestzaal (City Festival Hall, which is a beautiful indoor shopping center with marble & gold leaf) & Antwerp’s Central Station. A couple years ago, Christian was in Antwerp helping with the tunnel building under the Central Station. We also visited the diamond district but it was closed up on Saturday.
Next stop was Ghent, which was our favorite city in Belgium out of the three cities we visited. The buildings were beautiful and there were little waterways running through the city. Christian also bought a Stetson hat (U.S. made) in Ghent, which was funny to us! We saw St. Michael’s Bridge & Gravensteen Castle.
We drove to Brussels at the end of the day, where we stayed overnight. Sunday morning, we woke up to snow and started a little tour of the city. Belgium is known for their Pralines, so we definitely had to buy some chocolate! In Brussels, we saw the Grand Place, which is a central square, the Royal Palace, gardens and the best part was an Ethan Allen shop! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. It was even open on a Sunday, which is rare. It is their first European shop and they are planning on expanding. I can’t wait to buy more furniture!
Before heading back home, we finished our tour with delicious Belgium waffles!
